For more than 30
years the upper gastro-intestinal tract (mainly the stomach) has been a target
for surgery in obese people, in order to obtain massive weight-loss. This has
been mostly the case in the United States, but also now increasingly in Europe.
Such methods could appear, and still appear aggressive. However, they are now
acknowledged as efficient and validated on a scientific basis, with respect to
intractable cases of obesity.
